Multi-tasking mashup

While on the 'puter last night, it suddenly hit me that I was doing an Insane Amount Of Multi-tasking (I know, I hate that word, too) and my brain started overheating. I skidded to a full stop and assessed just what in heck I was doin', which was ...
  • comparing prices between Amazon.com and BestBuy.com for a workout DVD (Amazon.com's was better)
  • IM-ing with my far-flung brother-in-law (latest news: he gave up playing World of Warcraft awhile back)
  • scribbling a blog post (this one)
  • contemplating my turn in Scrabulous (went with "lair" for 12 points)
  • watching Twitter updates via Twitterrific (Maria, this is All Your Fault!)
Um, yeah. Pretty pathetic. Anyone else out there got a crazy multi-taskin' story to share? Y'know, so I don't feel quite so loser-ish? (Misery loves company 'n' all.) :-P

CFotD: Homestar Runner toolbar

Cool Find of the Day: While browsing through all the spiffy Firefox add-ons, on a whim, I typed in "Homestar Runner" and amazingly found two widgets!

One is the super-cool H*R Toolbar, which is a hoot. And handy.

"The Homestar Runner Toolbar is an enhanced navigation bar. With a simple keyword entry, the multiple scrolls and clicks of the Homestar Runner website can be bypassed, and any file can be reached immediately. Simply type the toon name OR the toon's filename, and one click is all it takes. The Homestar Runner Toolbar also offers instant access to hrwiki.org, the web's most comprehensive Homestar Runner information database. Again, a simple keyword entry is all that's needed to find everything from fun facts to transcripts to Easter eggs - all in one source."

So, if you're a Homestar Runner fan and use Firefox, ya may wanna give this a spin. :-)

It's Mac-tastical!

O, happy day! We finally replaced our dead home PC (after it crapped out over a year ago). An' no more &%*$#@! Dells for us, thank you. Based on the advice of my pal Melissa, we got ourselves a spiffy Mac Mini.

As it's been over a decade (good grief) since I last used a Mac, that pretty much makes me a Mac newbie all over again. Can anyone recommend a good resource or two to help me get up to speed? One thing I love to do is tweak and customize, so any tips on that are most appreciated.

The other part to this happy news is that, after much pleading with Husband Mike -- who is a bit of a Luddite -- we upgraded from dial-up to DSL! Holy. Freaking. Cow.

No longer do I have to dash out to the library to use their 'puters whenever I wanna view something on YouTube or download software. No longer do I have to wait 10 minutes just for my Gmail to load.

Yep, life is good.

Stupid, stupid, stupid Blogger!

... and did I say "stupid"?! Arrrrgghhhh!

Lured by the siren song of Blogger Beta's tagging feature (which they stubbornly insist on calling "labels", even though everyone else says "tags"), I switched over to give it a spin. I went through all my posts and tagged 'em, republished my blog to make 'em active, aaannnd ...

... kept getting the following error message:

org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPConnectionClosedException: FTP response 421 received. Server closed connection.

And not all of my posts got tagged -- some did, some didn't. (At least, that was the deal the last time I checked.)

I started searchin' through Blogger's help -- no luck. Looked through the Blogger Help Group -- lots of techno-gobbledygook that was beyond me. Did a general web search -- again with the technobabble.

:::stream of verybadwords:::

Yeah, yeah, I know it's a beta version and therefore has bugs. But still, I'm grumpy.

Computer woes

After weeks of troubleshooting the causes behind the steadily-growing stream of Windows stop errors our 'puter was puking up, all things pointed to a hardware problem, which I have zippo experience with.

So, Husband Mike and I lugged the &%$(*@ thing off to some computer repair folks for help. And the diagnosis, in a nutshell: Our Dell is dead. Which means we have to buy a new 'puter after all that time, effort, and now money. As we ponder our next move, postin' will prolly be light here.

:::sigh:::
