CFotD: Population Research Institute on YouTube

Cool Find of the Day: The Population Research Institute (PRI) is making excellent use of YouTube to extend the pro-life message to a larger audience, especially about China's "one child" policy. Check out their two cool introductory videos:

Population Research Institute: Part I

Population Research Institute: Part II

CFotD: Yakky Mario Time

The first two are more like "Fun Finds of the Day", but, whatever. :-P Here we go ...

Cool Find of the Day #1: For everyone who liked playing with action figures as a kid, especially Star Wars ones, check out Yak's Pub, "Where the figures come to get served." See AT-ST's play soccer, Yoda on dial-up, and more. Hilariously clever.

Cool Find of the Day #2: Husband Mike came across these guys doing a real-life version of Mario Kart. We laughed so hard we were both cryin'. Especially clever: Adding in the race map on the right tracking the racers' progress.

Real Life Mario Kart

Cool Find of the Day #3: A former coworker of mine was looking for a time-tracking widget that runs on a Mac, and lo! Time Tracker 1.2.1 tracks "the time you spend on projects with this simple and easy-to-use application. Divide your work into projects, and split each into individual tasks." Nice of 'im to share this with me. :-)

CFotD: Homestar Runner toolbar

Cool Find of the Day: While browsing through all the spiffy Firefox add-ons, on a whim, I typed in "Homestar Runner" and amazingly found two widgets!

One is the super-cool H*R Toolbar, which is a hoot. And handy.

"The Homestar Runner Toolbar is an enhanced navigation bar. With a simple keyword entry, the multiple scrolls and clicks of the Homestar Runner website can be bypassed, and any file can be reached immediately. Simply type the toon name OR the toon's filename, and one click is all it takes. The Homestar Runner Toolbar also offers instant access to hrwiki.org, the web's most comprehensive Homestar Runner information database. Again, a simple keyword entry is all that's needed to find everything from fun facts to transcripts to Easter eggs - all in one source."

So, if you're a Homestar Runner fan and use Firefox, ya may wanna give this a spin. :-)

CFotD: Icon of Joseph's family

Cool Find of the Day: It's not uncommon to see icons depicting Mary with her parents (traditionally named Joachim and Anne), and there are plenty of beautiful ones out there. But I've never seen one of Joseph with his parents ... until now.

I was absolutely floored and immensely delighted when I found this icon, "Family of Saint Joseph". Beautiful!

I've never ordered anything from outside the US, but I'm seriously considering getting it, along with one of Mary's family and the Holy Family itself. I rather like the idea of having the families of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus (the Holy Family), and I also like that it'd result in having three groups of three -- very Trinitarian!

I also adore these two depictions of Joseph here and here. And there are also some nice ones of Saints Francis and Clare ... :-)

CFotD: Painting of Mary's Coronation

Cool Find of the Day: I did backflips when I unexpectedly stumbled 'pon this wonderful painting of Mary's Coronation, as it has Joseph watching! That's always how I picture this particular mystery of the Rosary, and it's one of my faves. Imagine how thrilled Joseph was to watch Mary's Coronation as Queen of Heaven and Earth. His heart must've felt like bursting!

My other favorite mystery is the one just prior to the Coronation, Mary's Assumption. I see that as a big ole family reunion, not just with her and Jesus, but her, Jesus, and Joseph. The Holy Family reunited! Can you imagine the joy those Holy Spouses must've felt to be together again?

Anyhoodle, jes' had to share. :-)

CFotD: Pope-a-liciousness, spiffy blog

Two way Cool Finds of the Day to share:

CFotD #1: A huuuuuuge thanks to Fr. Jay Toborowsky for finding the following cool video, "A Day in the Life of Pope Benedict"! (It's in German, but really, who cares? It's the Papa!)

:::swoons:::

CFotD #2: The spiffy blog, Literary Compass, by Nick Senger. Pauline Cooperator Rae Staboz blogged about it, so I checked it out and it's a dandy read. (Thanks, Rae!)

CFotD: Friar Cam!

Two Cool Finds of the Day, in quick succession:

CFotD #1: I was browsin' around Catholics for the Common Good, which (gasp!) actually appears to be faithful to Church teaching (!!), when I stumbled 'pon this article and saw ...

CFotD #2: ... the first pic. Of a friar. With a TV camera. It's Friar Cam! How cool is that?! Dang, it's splendid to see a Franciscan friar -- and in full habit, no less -- taking part in a pro-life demonstration.

(While Friar Cam's been around for awhile on EWTN, we don't have cable (don't watch much TV and we're cheap), so it's the first I've heard o' it. An' I know you can watch their programming online, but we have dialup at home.)

CFotD: Coolest. Monk. Ever.

I wish I could remember just how I stumbled 'pon this blog, but I'm convinced that Fr. Stephanos is The Coolest Monk Ever.

I think I hurt something while reading his post on all the hoofin' poor Mary Magdalene did on Easter Sunday. (Caution: Set aside all food and beverages 'afore reading.)

God bless them Benedictines! :-D

CFotD: Documenta Catholica Omnia

Holy smackers, this site is an awesome resource!

Cool Find of the Day: Documenta Catholica Omnia

"Documenta Catholica Omnia is the official site of the Cooperatorum Veritas Societas, a people's Membership who have voluntarily and privately promised obedience to the Holy Father, in order to spread the official versions of each and every written document belonging to the Holy Christian Church, Catholic, Apostolic and Roman, in their original language and in faithful translations as well. ... Cooperatorum Veritas Societas is not a money oriented membership, but its goals are strictly of pastoral, cultural and propaganda fide nature, all of them are thought for the Truth's full respect."

CFotD: Two nifty Joseph-related groups

Cool Find of the Day #1:

Pious Union of St. Joseph
"All members ardently honor St. Joseph on March 19th and every Wednesday. Daily, we pray our prayer, suffering, sacrifice and good deeds for suffering and dying people."

Membership is free, and they publish a bimonthly pastoral magazine, Now and at the Hour, which fosters devotion to St. Joseph. My only complaint about their site (not the group itself) is that on most every page is an "under construction" message.

Cool Find of the Day #2:

St. Joseph's Workers for Life and Family
"Promotes and defends the sanctity of life and family in accordance with the Faith and teaching authority of the Roman Catholic Church through prayer and education."

Wowzers! Ooodles and oodles of pro-life resources everywhere you look! This Canadian-based organization also has a lot of great stuff on the theology of the body. Most impressive.

CFotD: Comment tracking; blogging agoraphobia

One thing I absolutely love about this ginourmous tool called The Internet is the way it leads me into nifty things -- be they widgets or thoughts -- from folks I'd never have discovered otherwise. The latest instance happened just a few minutes ago when reading this RealTechNews post.

I hadn't paid much attention 'afore to all the chiclets that display at the bottom of every post there, but for whatever reason, I did today. So much color! So many icons among 'em that were new to me. Must ... click ... pretty ... squares ...

Clicking the co.mments one led me to Cool Find of the Day #1: "Use co.mments to bookmark posts you want to follow. It tracks new comments for you, so you don't miss out. You can see all the new comments from your tracking page, or subscribe to the feed." Well, ain't that a dandy-fine idea! Gotta poke 'round there some more, and also see if there are other comment-trackin' doodads out there to compare it to.

Reading through the site's blog lead to CFotD #2: This great article on the walls comin' down in the blogosphere, and how some established bloggers get antsy over what they see as new voices "encroaching on their land and their fortunes", and their resultant attempts to "circle the wagons against the newcomers". A most fascinating read that I never would've encountered otherwise.

Anyhoo, that be it for now. 'Scuse me while I click more purty chiclets ...
